An EKG/ECG technician is a cardiology technologist with specialized training in operating 12-lead EKG equipment used to measure the heart performance of a patient. By attaching 12-lead electrodes to a patient’s body and recording the electrical impulses transmitted by a patient’s heart with an EKG machine. The EKG/ECG technician provides the data to the physician or other healthcare professions for analysis.
Many EKG/ECG technicians obtain employment in a hospital’s telemetry department where patients are often in critical condition, or have other heart-related conditions, and need constant monitoring. They are also employed in doctor’s office or other related healthcare environment.
